PLAY THE WHISTLE A GREAT SUCCESS!
The full list of all Play the Whistle entries are now available - click on the corresponding image on top-right of our homepage (and here).  If you entered the game you will find your entry within this list. Soon after each event an updated list with the current scores will be published on this website. You can use this to keep up to date both with your own entry and those of the overall leaders. Remember there are 23 cash prizes spread randomly among the top 100!  Your support is greatly appreciated and we hope you will enjoy the fun between now and November.

See note from the organising committee below.  Well done to all concerned for a great effort over a short period of time!

The start of the game stage of Play the Whistle this weekend brings to an end all the fretting and whetting, the calculations and considerations that have dominated both public and private debates over the last 4 weeks. We are now down to the business end which has started with 3 events in this first weekend so we can expect to see a leaderboard taking shape early next week.

The fundraising committee behind the game was led by Seamus Clancy ably supported by Joan Hanratty, Pauric McMenamin, Hugh Campbell and Ian Grogan. Worth special mention were Aidan Horan & Pat Lamb for their fantastic support in promoting the game. David Kehoe & Seamus' sons also deserve credit for their work in uploading the entry details.

It took a lot of work to bring Play the Whistle to fruition and the whole committee has been delighted with the response both to the idea and, more importantly, to the number of people who decided to play the game. Starting out everyone was aware that the challenge of raising money has been made much harder due to the general economic background and that a new and fresh approach was required. However, diverting from tried and tested methods will always carry some risk.

At the end of the day it matters little how good the idea or the promotion if the primary objective of raising money isn't met. With a total of 569 entries and much positive feedback it is clear that Play the Whistle was worth the gamble.

So as the 14 events get under way all that remains now is to wish everyone 'Good Luck' and go out there and do your best.
