U12s clinch Division 1 title
The U12 hurlers had a fantastic end to their year with a superb performance against Faughs on Saturday 15th November, which made them winners of Division 1 for 2009. Crokes needed a draw to win the league but put in a comprehensive performance to see them secure an unbeaten run in the league and end up double cup and league champions.
Saturday’s game against Faughs saw Crokes getting off to a great start with a goal by Shane Veale from a side line puck. While Faughs came back strongly the Crokes defence was outstanding in the first half with Sean Crowe, Mark McCallion and Ryan Murphy to the fore. As usual, Michael Crowley and Eamonn Allen dominated midfield. Further scores by Conor Gowing, Peter Herlihy and Michael Crowley put Crokes into a deserved lead by half time. In the second half the Crokes forwards took control of the game and Conor Gowing, Shane Veale and Peter Herlihy chalked up some great scores. Adam O’Neill and Des Dagg caused Faughs numerous problems and Tom Duke and Stephen Doyle kept out a very brave Faughs forward line. Ronan Kennedy, Daniel Coakley and Sean Keating came in the second half to relieve some very tired legs and made a big impact on the game. Tadhg Murphy, who has been outstanding in the nets all year, had another huge performance and was a worthy captain on the day. The final score was Kilmacud Crokes 4-5 to 3-3 for Faughs.
Congratulations to the management team, particularly Michael Veale, Mick Crowley, Frances Herlihy and, as usual, Kevin Coakley. Many thanks to all parents who have supported us and this great bunch of players during the year.
