U12's compete in Feile Alan Cregan
Body
Feile Alan Cregan is a ground hurling tournament with 16 Dublin clubs divided into 4 groups of 4 with top 2 in group playing for Cup and bottom 2 progresssing to Shield. Games are 10 mins a side with all frees taken as side-line cuts and lift and strike replacing the puck-outs. Crokes were the 2008 defending champions in the Sheild.Summer holiday absences made the task of assembling a team very difficult and in the end we only secured 12 players. Pitched in a group with St Judes, Na Fianna and O'Tooles (who didn't arrive) we only had 2 group games and against us both oppositions gallantly fielded 12 rather than the requisite 13 players
We started well winning 2-0 to 0-1 against Na Fianna with Jim Gibbons and Joey Dalton finding the net. We found it tougher against St Judes coming off scoreless to their solitary goal. Having made it to the Cup quarters we played a challenge game against Na Fianna and were convincingly beaten 0-0 to 5-0 as we experimented with players in different positions and gave our excellent goalkeeper, Adam Tuck, a spell outfield. Next up were St Vincents in the quarterfinal, who proved too strong, displaying fine ground striking skills and they ultimately came out winners by 6 goals to our blank account
Overall a good day out with some fine performances particularly from the U11's who subbed up...Jim Gibbons and Ciaran Gorman. Thanks also to U10 Michael Gibbons who gamely volunteered to make our numbers 13 in the last game. Overall lesson...we need to work on our ground striking
