Crokes win opener - Friday 18 June 2010
On Friday 18th June 2010 the Crokes under 14’s successfully negotiated the first round robin group hurdle with a 3-5 to 1-5 win over St. Josephs Doora Barefield at Gurteen, outside Ennis, Co Clare, on a close somewhat overcast afternoon.
Against the wind a goal after twenty seconds from Alex Considine provided a dream start. Shortly after, the same player was fouled and Sean Keating converted from sixty metres. Conor Gowing followed with a good point from twenty metres on the right. The Clare boys recorded two wides before pointing from a free. Sean Keating put over another free from forty five metres. St Josephs responded in kind. With twelve minutes on the clock Doora goaled. A minute later Conor Gowing’s pass set up Alex Considine who turned and rattled the onion sack, 2-3 to 1-2 at the short whistle.
The second half was less hectic with scores slower to come. As the end of regulation time (fifteen minutes per half) loomed three frees, punctuated by a Shane Veale long range pointed free, had provided the means whereby the hosts had it back to two and the Dublin following was edgy. In injury time Alex Considine hit the cross bar. His next effort was not to be thwarted as he raised his third green flag and then pointed to see the game end 3-5 to 1-5.
Team: Tadgh Murphy, Lorcan Tucker, Ryan Murphy, Eoin Keane, Desmond Dagg, Eamonn Allen, Mark McCallion, Sean Crowe, Tom Duke, Peter Herlihy, Shane Veale, Daniel Coakley, Conor Gowing, Alex Considine, Sean Keating. Subs: Francis O’Reilly for S Veale, Michael Crowley for D Coakley.
