U14B Record Good Away League Win

On Thursday1st July with the bare minimum of 15 players Crokes took on Commercials in Rathcoole in a 13-a-side game. Crokes played with a strong breeze and the “hill” in the 1st half but it was the home side that started the stronger and raised 2 white flags before a Paul Comerford reply for Crokes. Commercials extended the lead to 0-3 to 0-1 before Matt Redmond playing excellently at centre-back (until suffering an injury and having to be replaced @HT) recorded the score of the game, a monster point from play. Paul Comerford kept the scoreboard ticking over with an excellent free taking display notching a further 1-3  before the break. A Niall Sweeny point completed the scoring to leave Crokes ahead 1-6 to 0-3 at the interval. The 2nd half was going to be down to hard work and Darragh Butler & Johnny Maher came on to support the cause. Crokes fought bravely and seemed to be holding the fort until a quick 1-1 within a minute leveled matters with 10mins to go.  In the final home run the boys fought manly and repelled attack after attack. Crokes were a point down when awarded a free 30m out and 10m to the left of the posts in the last min of the game. Paul Comerford shot low, hard and goaled to grab victory. The result was harsh on a Commercials side who played very sportingly throughout. Equally the result was a reward for the character displayed by the Crokes and reward for an excellent team performance. Particular mention to Niall Sweeny for putting in a hugh shift in the middle of the field when moved there early in the game, Paul Comerford (with 1-4 in the 2nd half), Adam Tuck for an excellent 2nd half and Darragh Butler for a strong performance at centre back on his debut withthe 14B’s.
