Seniors Win, Inters Pipped
On Wednesday night (7th July 2010) the top two adult teams were away.
In AHL1 the seniors trip across town to Moibhi Road produced a dividend in the form of two league points with an 0-16 to 0-11 win over Na Fianna. Within five minutes Crokes led 0-3 to 0-1. Twenty minutes later it was 0-8 to 0-4, the last Kilmacud point coming following nice interplay between Aodhan de Paor, Naomhan O’Rearden and Hugh Gannon that set up James Burke for the score. In the remaining time to the interval the sides swapped minors.
Five minutes into the second period Fergal Armstrong made it double scores from a free. Na Fianna responded in kind from the puck out and then hit four uninterrupted points to draw level. A forty sixth minute Donal McGovern score edged Crokes ahead again. By now Hugh Gannon was exerting himself at midfield to telling effect and the Crokes backs continued to be tight. In the last ten minutes, Aodhan de Paor, whose move to centrefield in the first half was pivotal, spilt the posts three times (twice from distance frees) and Gannon added the grace note while Na Fianna pressed they were only able to trouble the umpires once.
Team:
MacD O’hOgain, S O’Rorke, A Cleary, A Grogan, R Mangan, G McMorrow, J Doughan, H Gannon (0-1), A Carr, S Gillen (0-1), A de Paor (0-5, f-4), J Burke (0-1), F Armstrong (0-6, f-40, D McGovern (0-2), N O’Rearden. Subs: E de Paor for J Burke (42 mins inj), P Clinton for F Armstrong 49 min, inj).
The Intermediates were not as fortunate in AHL3. Featuring six minors, with Jonathon Healy-Hayes and Alex Pilkington particularly prominent, they almost took a major scalp before going down by a point to Round Towers at Clondalkin Community Centre. A late free awarded to the home team left the Crokes management less than happy. For report see HERE
