James Stephens Tournament
Crokes under 9 hurlers travelled to the James Stephens GAA Club (Co. Kilkenny) on Sunday 12th of September.
Crokes were drawn in Group A along with our host James Stephens and nearby neighbours Dicksboro. Crokes settled early in our opening match against Diclsboro and took a commanding half time lead of 2-02 to 0-00. In the second half Crokes had the wind at their backs and pushed on to run out comfortable winners on a score line of 6-05 to 0-00.
In our second group match we faced host James Stephens to decide who would progress to the Cup Final. The Village lads with the wind at their backs got off to a flier and took a lead of 0-03 to 0-00 at half time. The second half saw the Crokes lads produce their finest hurling of the day as the outscored their opponents 2-02 to 0-01 to run out winners on a score line of 2-02 to 0-04.
In the Final Crokes faced Erins Own (Castlecomer) in an end to end battle , they comer lads took the early initiative and lead 2-02 to 0-01 at the break. In the second half the Crokes lads showed great character to fight back outscoring Erins Own by 2-01 to 1-01 but time ran out for Crokes and Erins Own took the honours on a final score line of 3-03 to 2-02.
We would like to express our gratitude to the James Stephens Club for the hospitality shown to our players and all the visiting crokes parents/supporters. Also our thanks to the Crokes Under 9 players and parents for travelling to Kilkenny and representing the Club.
