Seniors Gain League Points

Body

On Wednesday evening 25th May 2011 the Kilmacud Crokes senior hurlers picked up another brace of AHL1 points with a hard fought 2-12 to 1-13 victory over Crumlin at Pearse Park.

Playing against the strong wind Crokes were 2-4 to 0-7 in front at the interval.  The first goal came from Donal McGovern after five minutes to make it 1-1 to 0-3 and the second from an overhead flick to the net by the same player on twenty minutes.  This followed good combination between Shea Gillen and Kevin O’Loughlin and put the Stillorgan side 2-2 to 0-6 ahead.  Three minutes earlier they trailed 0-6 to 1-1.  Within four minutes of his second goal the full forward neatly robbed a defender and split the posts.  Crokes’ purple patch continued when Kevin O’Loughlin fed Barry O’Rorke who set up Naomhan O’Rearden for a minor.  While the homesters pulled one back before half time Crokes went into the break seemingly with the hard work done.

Five points to the opposition’s three in the first twenty minutes of the second instalment confirmed the half way impression as did a good save by keeper Matt Collins.  The last ten minutes gave lie.  With six minutes on the clock Crumlin goaled and it was all to play for, 2-9 to 10 according to the referee.   Two minutes on, the gap was a single point.  A Sean McGrath free restored the margin but Crumlin immediately nipped one back.  From there to the fourth and final minute of injury time the sides swopped points on two occasions with a Barry O’Rorke over thanks to a good puck out win by Sean McGrath providing the coup de grace.  Among the more prominent for the winners were Adrian Grogan, Aodhan de Paor, Naomhan O’Rearden, Sean McGrath and Donal McGovern.
