Report Week Ending 14th August 2011

Body

A heroic Dublin effort fell just short in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Semi Final in Croke Park on Sunday 14th July 2011 when they went down 1-19 to 0-18 to reigning champions, Tipperary.  The 43,563 attendance certainly got its money’s worth after a virtually score for score thriller.

Dublin overcame the concession of a third minute goal to claim the lead only for the Premier to rein them in at the break 0-11 to 1-8.  Tipp got the opening three points of the second period but Dublin were level by the forty sixth minute.  From then on it was anyone’s game.  However, the champion’s ability to eke out scores proved the difference.

Kilmacud Crokes certainly made its contribution.  Niall Corcoran was imperious at right corner back, seeing off no less a player than Eoin Kelly.  Ryan O’Dwyer put in a great shift against the odds up front.  Helping to orchestrate on the sideline was Richard Stakelum while panelists Ronan Walsh and Conor Clinton together with team doctor Chris Thompson also played their parts.

The curtain raiser provided some consolation for the Dubs with the minors advancing to the All-Ireland final for the first time since 1983 thanks to a 6-19 to 5-13 win over Waterford.  This game was over before half time at which point Dublin led 4-12 to 0-7.  Crokes’ Oisin O’Rorke made a second half appearance as substitute.  For hill16.ie report see HERE.

The previous evening the club intermediate hurlers brought their regulation AHL3 campaign to a very satisfactory conclusion with an impressive 3-13 to 3-8 win over St Vincents at Silverpark.  This was enough to secure second spot and promotion to AHL2.  The league final against Clanna Gael will be played at a later date.  Well done to Gerry McGrath, his management team, the players and all concerned.  For report see HERE.

Earlier that day the Under 16's, with a contingent of Under 15's and Under 14's, travelled to Camlough/Bessbrook in Armagh to participate in an excellent and very well organised tournament run by Craobh Rua. They played three matches, winning them all relatively comfortably.  For report see HERE

Pre-Croke Park three Tipperary clubs visited on Sunday morning.  Eire Og Nenagh and Clonmel Og played the under 10’s in Silverpark while the under 12’s hosted Ballybacon Grange in Deerpark.

On Thursday the Junior A’s had a good 5-10 to 1-10 away AHL5 win over Naomh Mearnog to finish their league campaign mid-table.
