Go Games results for 10 March 2012
Under 9 report
KC2 went down to KC1 by 21 points to 20 in a hard fought derby match.
Brief Report
Each of the three games were hard fought affairs with the mentors at times getting more excited than the players - but all the rivalry was good natured and fair.
KC1 came out on top in two of the matches on scorelines of 8-5 and 10-5 while KC2 triumphed in the third game by 10 to 3. All the lads tried hard and there was a great selection of points and goals for them to be proud of.

Under 10 Report
Saturday morning had our Panel B travel to a windy Clontarf (Panel A had a bye this weekend). Team talk at the beginning of the match emphasised the need to stay in position and go in with the block.
Match 1
Quick start by Clontarf took Crokes by surprise with an early goal. It took 10 minutes for Crokes to find their form then Daragh Purcell put two scores over the bar from midfield. Patrick Gibbons accurate puck outs to the side lines from goals made the midfield work easier resulting in an excellent goal by Michael Donnelly. Sean Delap and Cian Donnelly’s play in defence prevented Clontarf getting scores and their ground hurling stood to them on the Astroturf surface. Leo Fearon’s exceptional blocking, took on board the instruction at the beginning of the match.
Second half started with a slight lead but only for a short time as Davy Crowe put a score over the bar from the throw in. Mark Murphy moved to defence and his awareness of marking the Clontarf forwards kept Crokes in the lead. A midfield move created by Cian O Cathasaigh who hand passed to Sean Delap then to Jack Tiernan who powered a score into the net. Michael Egans speed and alertness in midfield resulted in the team achieving a good win and importantly earning 6 skill points against a strong Clontarf side.
Match 2
We agreed on an 11-aside match with Clontarf, giving all players maximum game time on a sunny but breezy day on the Alfie Byrne Road. The games were played on the all-weather pitch with the pace of the ball being a bit faster than what the lads would normally be used to. Within a few minutes the Crokes midfield began to dominate with Michael Nealon and Daire McNulty combining with some terrific hand passing. Liam Smyth and Jack Sherry provided extra physical presence in the middle with some wonderful hooking and blocking. The rearguard held up well with Patrick Ó Súilleabháin, Luke Gilleran and Dan Kearney letting nothing through as goalie, Patrick McCormack chipped in with some fine saves in the first half. Michael Marren, Gordon Lenehan and Luc O'Gorman led the attack in the first half with some terrific ground hurling. We moved defence into attack for the second half so all of the lads managed to get some decent time on the ball. The second half was a tighter affair with the home side pulling back a few scores but in the end the spoils went to the Southsiders with a couple of fine points taken by Michael Nealon. We had another team in action in Clontarf also recording a fine victory 17-10.
Panel B Team 2 V Clontarf 10th March 2012 managed by Michael and Tom
Crokes dominated from the start with midfielders Joseph Neary, Robert O’Donovan and Shane Ryall picking up most of the midfield possession and feeding it quickly through to the forwards, Eoghan Murphy, Michael Cregg and Ciaran Browne who made most of the scoring opportunities. The backs, Colm Roche, Dara MacGabhann and Paraic Moran swept up whatever ball came into the Crokes half.of the pitch. Ronan O’Reilly and Seamus O’Donnell put in strong performances when introduced. At half-time, Crokes had clocked up a winning scoreline. For the second half, the backs and forwards switched and Crokes kept up the intensity to finish easy winners.
