The Dara Lyndon Memorial Cup

UCD Saturday 26h April 2025

Over 60 adult hurlers gathered on a fine Saturday morning to compete for the Dara Lyndon Memorial Cup 7 aside tournament.

Senior 1, 2, Intermediate and Junior players combined on teams competing for the  inaugural 7  aside tournament.

The true meaning of a club symbolises community and collaboration.

Fine weather, great hurling and wonderful enjoyment made a memorable occasion.

Nearly three years has passed since Dara left us, in May 2022 and as club we honour the memory of  our friend and clubman Dara, by welcoming Dara's wife Liz,  and children Rachel, Shane and Cillian, brother Eoin and sisters Orla, Niamh, Aisling and Gráinne and the extended Lyndon family who travelled from the four corners of Dublin and Ireland to be present for a celebration of hurling.

Two groups of 3 teams consisting of 10 players, battled it out for 7s supremacy with the third placed teams playing off in a final, the second placed teams in a final, and a Cup final between the winners of the two groups.

Matthew Peters captained Team C,  to a narrow one point victory over Tom Stakelum’s Team F in a pulsating match.

Evening festivities continued following Dublin’s Parnell Park victory,  with the winning cup being filled late into the night.

Such was the success of the day, that  coordinator Mick Hynes is already planning next year’s event!
