Crokes excel in DID Electrical Skills Star challenge
Five boys from Kilmacud Crokes did themselves and their club proud when they travelled down to James Stephens in Kilkenny on Saturday to take part in the inaugural DID Electrical Skills Star Challenge and emerged as the winners of the competition. The team, consisting of one representative from the U-8, U-9, U-10, U-11 and U-12 age groups, were tested in five key skills - ground striking, free taking, ground cut, ball control and beat the goalie penalty taking. Crokes were represented by Aaron O’Toole, Sean Kinsella, Tom Kehoe, Jim Gibbons and Conor O’Dwyer and competed against 9 other clubs on the day – 8 from Kilkenny and fellow Dubliners, Na Fianna.
As well as high skill levels, the young Crokes players displayed tremendous poise and maturity in executing the various skills and all the boys finished in the upper tier of their respective age groups. The competition was assessed on a team basis and the lads were jubilant when they heard Kilmacud being announced as the overall winners - James Stephens were 2nd and John Lockes from Callan finished in 3rd place.
We would like to extend a big thanks to James Stephens for the invitation to the competition and can only compliment the efficiency with which they ran the competition and the warm hospitality provided throughout the day. We would also like to acknowledge the sponsors, DID Electrical, for the fantastic support that they provided to the competition.
