Inters progress to Semi Final
The Kilmacud Crokes intermediate hurlers long delayed quarter final against St Peregrine’s was decided in Silverpark on Saturday 10th October 2009.
Thanks to two points from Daibhi de Paor and one each from
Niall Butler, Conor Sheehan and Declan Browne, the home team led 0-5 to 0-3 after twelve minutes. In the thirteenth a well worked move, involving Shane McNicholas, Brian Hanamy and Butler, saw the corner forward streak away from his man and billow the net. Almost straight away Daibhi de Paor converted a free to make it 1-6 to 0-3. Two Peregrines’ points followed before a neat rob and over by Conor Sheehan put Crokes 1-7 to 0-5 to the good. The visitors raised the next two white flags. Declan Browne, who was now operating at centre back, pointed a 62 metre free to end the first half scoring at 1-8 to 0-7.
At the interval Crokes reshaped with Andrew Hopkins going to corner back,
Shane McNicholas to full back, Eoin de Paor to half back and Shane Canny coming in at corner forward. Within a minute of the restart Peregrines pointed. Six wides were shared and a Niall Butler effort came off the crossbar over the subsequent fourteen minutes before pressure from the Crokes forwards saw the ball come to Shane Canny in the forty sixth minute. The impressive substitute split the posts, 1-9 to 0-8. Daibhi de Paor then added another minor from a placed ball. Peregrines got a tonic response when a ball from long range found the net, putting the fat back in the fire in the forty ninth minute.
Within a minute a Peregrines forward was through on goal. Richie Tighe’s good save, followed smartly by a Daibhi de Paor point, had the effect of a four point swing – where Crokes might have trailed by one they were now ahead 1-11 to 1-8. This seemed to take the sting out of the Mulhuddart men and in the last eight minutes Crokes registered an unanswered two goals (both courtesy of Brian Hanamy) and a similar number of points (thanks to
Declan Browne and Daibhi de Paor). In what was an impressive 3-13 to 1-8 victory, the winners’ leading lights included Declan Browne, Conor Sheehan, Mark Coughlan, Eoin Culligan, William McEvoy, Daibhi de Paor and Brian Hanamy while minor Matthew Kinsella also shone.
