Junior A's beat Clan na Gael Fontenoy
The junior A team played their second championship match of the season on Saturday night in Silverpark. We knew we would be up against it, against Clan na Gael Fontenoy, who play in Division 2 of the league.
It was a lovely night for hurling and the pitch was in great shape, despite the recent rain. Playing against the breeze we were quick out of the blocks and Peter Clinton scored a goal from close in, after a free dropped short. Shortly after, Richie opened his account with a free. Clans came at us but we dug in and our half back line were dominating - especially Darren. Clans got back to a point before Riche scored a goal, to put us four up. Clans came at us again and dominated the last 10 minutes of the first half, to leave the scores level 2-05 to 1-08 at half time.
The second half was nip and tuck, with neither side scoring in the first 10 minutes of the half. Conor then put us ahead with a free, which he added to shortly after. More frees were traded but we were now 3 points up. Clans came raiding and Paddy Tighe made a couple of very brave saves, helped by James O'Keeffe. From a long clearance Matthew Geraghty fed Darren McVeigh, who scored a great goal to put us 6 up. Clans came back with two points, to reduce the gap to 4, and then forced a 21 yard free. Paddy stood tall and stopped it and, as he drove it down the pitch, the ref blew the full time whistle.
The final score was Kilmacud Crokes 3-09, Clan na Gael Fontenoy 1-11
