Report Week Ending 18th September 2011

Body

It was a week where the highlight was a non-hurling event - Dublin’s great win over Kerry in the All-Ireland Football Final in Croke Park on Sunday 18th September 2011.  Many congratulations to all concerned, especially to the Crokes representatives Rory O Carroll, Kevin Nolan, Cian O Sullivan, Craig Dias and Ross O’Carroll together with selector Paddy O’Donoghue who did the club so proud.

Panel:  M Collins, S O’Rorke, W McEvoy, A Grogan, N Corcoran, R O’Loughlin, B O’Carroll, G McMorrow, C Clinton, J Doughan, R O’Dwyer, R Walsh, B Mulligan, S McGrath, K O’Loughlin, D McGovern, S Gillen and G Melican

For the juvenile teams it was league action all the way on Saturday.  The under 14A’s beat Naomh Barrog away in Division 1 by 3-21 to 1-7, having led 2-10 to 1-4 at the break.  Conn O’Cleirigh, Brian Grogan, Adam Tuck and Darragh Butler were prominent.  Notwithstanding a strong wind and downpour, their B counterparts had a most impressive Division 2 win over physically strong Whitehall Colmcilles, 3-11 to 3-2 (h/t 2-6 to 2-1) at Silverpark.  Aidan Healy, Tom Fox, Louis de Courcy and Stephen Crossan led the way.

Both under 13 teams were scheduled to play Whitehall Colmcilles.  In the A match the laurels went to the Northsiders.

Sunday morning had the two under 15 sides in first round and also quarter final championship action.  The A’s overcame St Vincents by 3-10 to 3-8 away.  The Southsiders were down two points at half time having played into a strong wind.  They turned it round in the second half and led by eight points with five minutes to go.  Two late goals increased the anxiety level.  Ryan Murphy and Mark McCallion were impressive in the central defensive positions with good support from Sean Crowe, Sean Keating and Eamonn Allen.

Rathcoole was the destination for the B’s against Commercials at the same stage.  Following a very good first half performance they were unlucky to go in 2-5 to 1-5 in arrears, a late goal being the difference.  The concession of a quick goal and point in the opening minutes of the renewal effectively ended the contest.  Best for Crokes were Cillian Fleming, Rory Geraghty, Eoin Sheehy, Niall Sweeny and Kevin Culligan.
