Seniors Bow Out

The Kilmacud Crokes senior hurlers’ 2010 championship campaign came to an end at Parnell Park on Sunday 24th October 2010 against a St Vincents team that was just too good on the day.  After eight minutes the Marino men were four points clear before James Burke opened the Crokes account.  The three point margin was short lived as Vincents goaled in minute eleven.  Over the next thirteen minutes Crokes just about kept pace.  What in hindsight proved to be the decisive scores came in a four minute spell, two points, a goal and a point, all to Vincents.  A well taken Kevin O’Loughlin 20 metre free (see video clip below) gave the Stillorgan side hope but this was dented by the concession of another point before the short whistle that saw the teams go in 2-9 to 1-6.  

During the first half Crokes had made a number of positional switches up front and opened the second period with Kevin O’Loughlin at half forward in a direct swop with Conor Clinton who had earlier moved there in a change that saw Niall Corcoran go to midfield and Ross O’Carroll to centre forward.  The northsiders opened the second half scoring and had pegged on four points and a goal by the three quarter mark.   Substitute Donal McGovern marked his introduction with an over in the forty ninth minute.  Vincents re-asserted themselves with two points.  Ross O’Carroll got Crokes second score of the half four minutes short of regulation time, prequeling two similar scores for the victors as the game drew to its conclusion.  This was a match where Crokes never really got out of traps.  Championships are not easily won and the young team must now learn from and build on the experience.   Crokes better performers included MacDara O’hOgain, Rob O’Loughlin, Jack Doughan and Kevin O’Loughlin.
