Two More League Points For Seniors

Body

The concession of a goal after just twenty seconds did not prevent Crokes senior hurlers taking the spoils against St Vincents in AHL1 at Silverpark on Friday 16th July 2010.  On a pleasant overcast evening the Stillorgan team was quickly back in the game and by the nineteenth minute had forged 0-5 to 1-1 ahead.  That they were ahead was in no small measure due to an excellent and brave block by keeper MacDara O’hOgain in the seventeenth minute.

In the twenty first minute Vins levelled.  An exchange of minors kept the sides at par with five minutes left in the half.  Then a defence splitting diagonal ball from Aodhan de Paor found Kevin O’Loughlin on the right.  The corner forward rounded his man and sent over from an acute angle.  Conor Clinton followed with a long range point.  The Marino men pulled one back and it was 0-8 to 1-4 at the tea break.

On the resumption Vincents equalised from their first attack.  Two minutes later they hit the front with a similar score.  Conor Clinton’s third point of night reeled them in.  The visitors won the puck out and were back in front.  A Kevin O’Loughlin free on thirty six minutes made it 0-10 to 1-7.  A neat flick into the hand and clever pass from the same player set up Aodhan de Paor to nudge Crokes into the lead.  The same two players, O’Loughlin from a 65 and de Paor from play, pushed the Kilmacud outfit three points clear.

Vins brought it back to the minimum on the three quarter mark.  With twelve minutes left a forceful run by Naomhan O’Rearden drew a foul which Kevin O’Loughlin converted.  Five scoreless minutes ensued before a Vincents free made it 0-14 to 1-10.  That was to be their last score as the home team raised three white flags to come home 0-17 to 1-10 to the good.  The first of these came as a result of hard work by Hugh Gannon, who passed to Donal McGovern allowing the full forward to set up Aodhan de Paor.
