Victory for the Junior A's against Civil Service
The Junior A team played their third championship match of the season on Wednesday night in Islandbridge against Civil Service. Exams and summer travelling ruled out Paddy Tighe and Killian Doherty, so Cian MacGabhann made his junior debut and was very assured all night.
It was a lovely night for hurling and, playing with the breeze, we were quickly out of the blocks. Jonathan caught the first high ball in and beat the keeper with a cracking shot, but the crossbar stopped a certain goal. However the scene was set and soon after Richie opened our account with a well taken goal after great work from Jonathan and Peter. Richie tagged on a couple of frees before Kevin ran straight through the middle and buried the ball past the keeper. Our backs were dominating their men in every position and driving great ball into the forwards, as was our extremely hard working midfield of Matthew and Niall. From a long ball in from Darren, Peter Clinton scored a goal, which was quickly added to with another from Jonathan. We tagged on a few more points to leave the scores Crokes 4-07 to 0-02 at half time.
Civil Service came at us with more intensity at the start of the second half and scored the first point. However, we took over again and Jonathan took the sting out of them with his second goal. Soon after we let Service in for a goal but we responded immediately with our last goal from Peter. The intensity died in the last 15 minutes but our forwards worked hard and allowed the backs to shine, with fine points from Karl Russell and Stephen Beale. The final score was Kilmacud Crokes 4-11 Civil Service 1-03
