Week Ending 5th July 2009
Dublin senor hurlers came up just short in the 2009 Leinster Senior Hurling decider at Croke Park on Sunday 5th July 2009 when going down 2-18 to 0-18 against All-Ireland champions Kilkenny. Having played with the breeze in the first half, the Metropolitans trailed 1-10 to 0-7 at the turn. A superbly committed second half brought them within striking distance but not quite far enough. For report check back later.
Kilmacud Crokes Hurling was well represented with Niall Corcoran and Ross O'Carroll, after his introduction, featuring strongly and Richard Stakelum a pivotal member of the management team. Team doctor Chris Thompson also played his part. The Dubs' next outing is the All-Ireland quarter final on the weekend of 25th/26th July.
Seniors v Ballyboden
On Monday the seniors faced up to county champions Ballyboden 'A' in AHL1 at Pairc Ui Mhurchu. Down 0-5 to no score after fifteen minutes the outlook was bleak. A Fergal Armstrong free opened the Crokes account. This seemed to settle the team. From then on Crokes got down to business and battled gamely. The defensive sextet and Fergal Armstrong, especially after his withdrawal to a deeper role early in the second period, made telling contributions. At half time it was 0-9 to 0-3 with Kevin O'Loughlin having sent over a sideline cut in the twenty seventh minute. As the second half progressed the Kilmacud side ate into the Boden lead and with a minute to go there were just three points in it. Against the run of play the home team split the posts to leave it 0-15 to 0-11 at the death.
Team: R Sweetnam, N Mulligan, N Lillis, G McMorrow, R O’Loughlin, A Cleary, H Gannon. S Gillen (0-2), B O’Rorke, R Walsh, C Clinton, B O’Leidhin, P Clinton, F Armstrong (0-5, f-2), K O’Loughlin (0-3, f-1, s/line-1). Subs: E de Paor for B O’Leidhin, W Ryan [one point unattributed]
Minors v St Judes
Meanwhile the minors were entertaining St Judes at Silverpark in a Division 1 league game. It was 1-4 apiece at half time. Crokes scored the first two points after the resumption. St Judes took the lead with a goal midway through to lead by one. Three points in reply were enough to secure at two point win. For report see HERE

Quote from Parent
“As a parent who has 5 children in the club and 2 more about to start, I have got to know more people since I started helping out with my 5th child that I did bringing all my other children to training and matches. Your child will love to see you getting involved. And remember, these parents are the people you will be standing with on the sideline of pitches for the rest of your son's playing career! Many helpers lighten the load for everybody.”
