Death Notice Danny Ryan RIP
The Kilmacud Crokes Club Community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Danny Ryan, a true club legend and one of the defining figures in our history.
A dual member of the Club Team of the Millennium, former Senior Hurling Captain, selector, committee member, volunteer and mentor, Danny gave a lifetime of service to Crokes. He embodied everything that is best about our club. His contribution on and off the field was immense, from leading teams to success to helping generations of players develop and thrive. Danny was a gifted hurler, a wise judge of talent and, above all, a kind and genuine true gentleman. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Danny was also an accomplished footballer. He was a member of teams who won titles across Junior Football Championship, Intermediate Football League and Championship, Senior Football in Divisions 2 and 3. He won the 1985 Senior Hurling Championship and the 1989 Murphy Cup.
He was also heavily involved in supporting Ladies Football and gave unselfishly of his time to support the growth and development of this section, which has now become the fastest growing section in the club.
In the early staging of the M2M charity cycle events, Danny volunteered and provided support as one of the van drivers.
Danny had the unique distinction of being involved in the Kilmacud 7's Tournaments across 5 decades - in many different roles, player, umpire, volunteer.
Danny's brothers Kevin, Billy and Frank have all been involved in the club as was his mother Mrs Tess Ryan.
Over the last 3 year's Danny has been a prominent member of the Kilmacud Community Men's Shed and has made lots of new friends who will now miss him dearly. He was a regular attendee at the Thursday Pitch and Putt sessions and in supporting Laura Lynn as a volunteer. The Shed have cancelled this weeks Pitch and Putt session as a mark of respect to Danny. Laura Lynn also sent a beautiful message of tribute to the Shed in memory of Danny
Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the Ryan family, his many friends and all who mourn his loss.

Personal Tribute to Danny from Kilmacud Glenalbyn Sports Club Chaiperson - Sean Donnelly
I have known Danny Ryan since the 1960’s and he subsequently came to play Football and Hurling with Kilmacud Crokes in 1972 when Benburbs GAA Club
merged with Kilmacud Crokes and graduated through the ranks winning medals at Junior, Intermediate and Senior. Danny is the only Kilmacud Crokes
player to be named as part of both the Football and Hurling Millennium Teams. Danny has achieved massive sporting success that very few others can match .Incredibly Danny won Senior Hurling Championships, Intermediate Football Championships, Senior Football League titles, and a Junior Football Championship to name but a few.
Danny played with intensity and left every ounce of his energy on the pitch, he gave as good as he got and only relaxed when the match was over. He was also
known to have smoked the odd fag at half time during a match. I had the pleasure of managing the Junior Football Championship winning Team of 1986 which included 3 Ryans, Danny, Billy and Kevin and 2 Noones, Tom and the late Ray and provided a recipe for chaos. But Danny was usually the rock of sense and not shy about shouting instruc tions to all concerned. Danny loved sport of any kind, he played 10 pin bowling and represented Ireland. He was also a powerful golfer and played with the Club’s Golf Society
with distinction. Danny also had great days fishing the rivers and lakes of Cavan with the Sheridans. But Danny was much more than all of this he was the permanent go to
volunteer for any task to be carried out in the Club no matter how difficult. Danny helped with every All Ireland Football Sevens and probably the All
Ireland Hurling Sevens as well, for over 50 years. He cut grass, marked pitches, put up and took down nets. When Danny’s playing career was over he took up refereeing and made a significant contribution to our games. In more recent years Danny has been heavily involved with the Ladies Football Section and the recent Championship successes are testament to his ongoing work. Danny was not shy about expressing his point of view –“ Mr. Chairman, on a point of order”
Danny contribution to Kilmacud Crokes over 60 years has been immense I am honored to have had Danny Ryan as a very close friend
Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the Ryan family, his many friends and all who mourn his loss.
