U12s on Trip to Tipp
Emeralds 2:03 v Kilmacud Crokes 7:09
On a perfect day for Hurling the KCU12 boys took to the pitch against Emeralds of Urlingford looking to banish the memory of a defeat to James stephens the previous week. From the throw-in the game was fast and furious and despite an early Emeralds point the Crokes boys soon took control of proceedings with Fiachra (Tucker) and Fergal (Whitely) dominent in midfield. With plenty of ball going into the forwards Alex (Considine) and Cathal (Keane) punished Emeralds repeatedly and ably supported by Joey (Dalton), Stephen (Crossan) and Jean (De Ballincourt) we turned 2(goals) .6(points) to 0(goals) . 2(points) up at the break. The second half was a much more even affair with Crokes playing into a slight breeze however stout defence from Martin (Connor), Darragh (Butler), Oision (Doherty) and Tom (Fox) supported by Joe (Leddy and Chris (Keally) restricted Emeralds to a score of 2(Goals) and 1(Point) in this half. At the other end Conor (Walsh) popped up with a Goal and with further scores from Alex and Cathal we ran out worthy winners on a Score line of 7:9 to 2:3. After the match we were treated to some excellent local hospitality and suitably refreshed we headed for Thurles for the completion of what was an excellent outing.
Holycross Ballycahill 5-6 Kilmacud Crokes 2-3
Holycross were the stronger team throughout in this game played in perfect conditions. From the outset 'Crokes were under pressure and Cillian Fleming was a busy man in goal. Holycross dominated in the key positions of centre back midfield and centre forward and had some nippy young cornerforwards that gave plenty of trouble to our full back line. A 2.3 to 0.1 have time lead for Holycross was a fair reflection. 'Crokes woke up in the second half and despite conceding an early goal then scored 2.2 without reply through Conor O'Dwyer, Johnny Maher (goals) and Stevie O'Dwyer (2 frees). Unfortunately the comeback was short lived and Holycross scored 2 further late goals to close the match out.
