Match Report

After a heart breaking late defeat to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags' />Erin’s Isle two weeks ago, Crokes needed a pick me up and it arrived in the shape of a 6-7 to 2-6 victory over St. Judes of Tempelogue in the best performance of the year to date. We had a panel of 19 on the day but with Judes having only 13 the bench was well warmed! Crokes got off to a good start with the now customary early goal from Kevin Browne. 1st half goalkeeper Stephen Barr made full use of the wind advantage with his long puck outs. Cillain O’Shea led the way with his man of the match performance from midfield & centre-forward including 2-2. Captain Niall Sweeney contributed handsomely with 2-4 from play in another strong showing. The game was keenly contested throughout particularly so in the 1st quarter. Crokes overcame the loss of centre back, Francis O’Reilly (shin) and full back Gavin McDermott (sprained finger) to take a 3-4 to 0-3 interval lead.

In the second half, Judes tried hard against the wind but Crokes proved too strong on the day. An injury time goal for Crokes rounded things off with Ruairi Geraghty, Ross Finnegan and Daniel Bohan all claiming the final touch – the TMO may be required to resolve his one! This was an excellent all-round performance from Kilmacud and a reward for teamwork with every individual playing his part. Strong 2nd half defensive displays from Craig Lawlor, the ever tenacious Syed Rizvi, Stephen O’Hurley, Paul Comerford (2nd half goalkeeper) and Cian O’Connor (before retiring with a groin injury) helped secure victory.

Particular mention to Judes centre half back for a very high calibre display including a point from a 1st half sideline cut into the wind.
