U14s beat Boden

Body

This was a crucial match for the Kilmacud Crokes lads, having lost to Ballyboden in the Dublin Féile final last June. Crokes started out well with a point scored by Dara O Gallchobhair and two points from frees by Mark O Loughlin. Boden then came into the game and controlled the match for a while, scoring some good points and two goals, which put them into a comfortable lead. Crokes needed to answer quickly, which they did, when Ciarán McIntyre netted a crucial goal. This inspired the boys to fight back. It was then Crokes’ turn to put the pressure on. D. O Gallchobhair added two more points while M. O Loughlin’s  point from another free was slotted over. A point by Dara brought the sides level. Crokes were gaining in confidence and they were rewarded with a fine goal from Stephen Faughey from out the field. The whistle blew for half time with Crokes leading 2-09 to Bodens’ 2-06.
The second half was dominated mainly by Crokes. Once again there were many frees, which Mark O Loughlin popped over the bar; with the exception of one, which he drilled skilfully into the back of the net. Donal Keane opened his scoring tally with a fine point while S. Bedford added to his  total with a well taken goal. Boden tried to claw their way back into the match but the fullbacks Odhrán O Siochrú, Gregory Buckley and Graham Healy-Hayes battled well to keep their scores down to one goal and four points in the second half. Goalkeeper E. Allen made a fantastic save at this important stage of the game. Half backs Cian Mac Gabhann, Donncha O Murchú and Ronan Horgan worked relentlessly and supplied the crucial passes for the forwards. At this point Conor Hayes was unlucky when his goal was disallowed. Mid fielders E. Campion and S . Faughey blocked and harried relentlessly from start to finish. With two more points from Ciarán McIntyre and two points from frees slotted over by Mark again, Crokes finished the game with a comfortable score of 4-16 to 3-10.Second half subs C Keane Breslin, A.Spollen and D Paisley also played their part in this fine win.
