Junior A’s Narrow Defeat in Championship
The Junior A’s went down to Na Fianna by the narrowest of margins in their Championship match on Wednesday evening (21st July 2010) in Moibhi Road.
This was a pulsating and high quality match from start to finish – the sides traded points and were level on five points each after 19 minutes, when Na Fianna struck for two goals and went on to lead by six points. However points from Jude Sweeney, Mark O’Dwyer, Alex Pilkington and a
penalty and 25 yard free by Jonathon Hayes left the sides level at 2.5 to 1.08 at half time.
The second half continued well for the Crokes lads and they played with pride and passion, always keeping a step ahead and playing some great combination hurling. After trading points the Crokes lads were 3 points up with seven minutes to go, when Na Fianna struck for their third goal. A point for Crokes and two pointed frees for Na Fianna saw them take the win by a single point.
Again, this was a most impressive display and great credit to all the players for showing such great determination and who were, in the end, very unlucky to come out on the wrong side of a great match – each and every player put in a super performance.
Based on this display, Crokes will still qualify for the knockout stages of this Championship by winning their remaining two group matches and are still in 3rd place in their group. Na Fianna in the Final, who knows ?
