At O’Toole Park Saturday’s under 21C final against Whitehall Colmcilles went to the Northsiders by 1-11 to 0-8. It was 1-5 to 0-5 at half time with the winner’s goal coming in the tenth minute. Crokes tried hard to peg back the lead but in the end could not quite match the victors. Notwithstanding the outcome it was an achievement to reach the final and well done to all concerned.

The following day Dublin, with Niall Corcoran and Ryan O’Dwyer starting and Conor Clinton introduced as a second half substitute, made it five points out of six in the Allianz Hurling League (Division 1) with a 2-23 to 1-13 win over Offaly at Tullamore.  For hill16 report see HERE.

Before the game the under 14’s were in nearby Clara for a challenge.  At the end of three periods of twenty minutes the Offaly boys were 3-5 to 2-5 to the good.  Best for Crokes were Chris Kealy, Stephen McEntee, Eoin Sheehy and Conor Kelly.

Nearer to home the same morning the under 16’s played St Lachtains of Freshford (Kilkenny) in the first round of the inaugural Leinster League at the Curragh Military Camp.  After twenty minutes the sides were level at 0-2 apiece.  Freshford doubled their tally without response in the run up to the break.  The Kilkenny team had the better of the second half and ended 0-14 to 1-4 on top.  Gregory Buckley was the standout defensive player for Crokes.  Donal Keane, alternating between full and centre forward, also made an impact.  New net minder, Ciaran McIntyre, kept a good goal while under 15’s Andrew Ahern, Des Dagg and Conor Gowing, who got a neat poacher’s goal, also contributed.

Team:

C McIntyre, A Ahern, O O'Siochru, G Buckley, M O'Dwyer, D O'Murchu, D Dagg, E Campion, C Keane-Breslin, D O'Gallchobhair, C MacGabhann, D Paisley, C Gowing, D Keane, A Spollen.

Back on Liffeyside the Junior A’s lost their Corn Fogarty game against Ballyboden St Enda’s at Silverpark by 3-12 to 0-9.  The winners led 1-8 to 0-2 at the short whistle.  Crokes better performers included Stephan Beale and Ger Geoghegan.  The Junior E’s suffered a similar fate in the Eddie Barron Shield losing by ten points against Clanna Gael at Sean Moore Park.  They trailed by 1-3 to 0-2 at half time.  To the fore were Oisin O’Carroll, Conor O’Dwyer, Andrew Colclough and James Butler.

Friday, 4th March 2011, saw the under 14B’s travel to Celbridge for a challenge.  The short grass boys seemed to go into a commanding lead in the early stages.  Crokes clawed their way back to trail 4-5 to 2-0 at the interval.  The second period was closely fought before the home team emerged 6-7 to 4-7 winners.  Among Crokes stars were Conn O’Cleirigh, Mattie Hogan, Stephen McEntee at centre back, Ciaran Hennessey and Chris Kealy especially in the second half.

On Tuesday the seniors travelled to the Royal County to take on the Meath senior team in a challenge under lights at the latter’s impressive Dungany multi pitch facility.
