Pulsating Under 15B Encounter
On Sunday 10th April 2011 Pairc de Burca saw a pulsating Division 3 game as the under 15B’s come home 4-4 to 2-8 against Kevins. The Dolphins Barn boys raised the first (white) flag. A two minute whirlwind from Ronan Kennedy yielded the left corner man 2-1 by the tenth minute. Kevins pulled a goal back. In the fourteenth minute Paul Comerford extended the lead by one, 2-2 to 1-1. Kevins matched the score three minutes later. We than had a scoring reprive before young Kennedy pounced for another minor with five minutes left on the first half clock. 120 seconds later a Kevins goal completed the pre-interval scoring, leaving the margin as tight as could be, 2-3 to 2-2.
Five third quarter overs without answer looked to spell curtains for the Kilmacud boys when up popped the Tipperary/Sligo ancestered No 15 to reduce the arrears to 2-7 to 3-3. The visitors forged ahead by another point. Then in the fifty fifth minute Barney Sultan, now operating at full forward, ran through, found the net and Crokes were back in front. A moment later Ronan Kennedy doubled the lead. That was enough drama for most games but we were not done as Cillian Fleming was called upon to make a great double save to secure the spoils.
Most mention above has been of forwards but in truth this was a victory based on an outstanding defensive performance. Cillian Fleming was faultless in nets. Ruairi Geraghty and Matthew Redmond reigned supreme in the full back line, ably assisted by Shane Vallom. Andrew Ahern’s pivotal work was well above the call of duty with his wing men Stephen O’Hurley and Barney Sultan and Andrew Porter, in turn, supporting him well. In front of them Sayed Rizvi and Richard Couse worked tirelessly. All through the field the Crokes boys battled and battled to earn a well merited win.
