Report Week ending 1st May 2011
Sunday 1st May 2011
Dublin 0-22 Kilkenny 1-7
Crokes players, man of the match Ryan O'Dwyer and tigerish corner back Niall Corcoran helped Dublin power past Kilkenny to win the Allianz National hurling league title in Croke Park on Sunday afternoon, 1st May 2011, for the first time since 1939. Dublin were the superior team throughout and by half time had built a six point lead. Paul Ryan was outstanding in the first half scoring seven points which included four frees. Eoin Larkin was dismissed in the 25th minute by referee Michael Wadding who also controversially blew for half time with Dublin on the attack. Conor McCormack finished to the net only to have the goal disallowed. Remarkably, Kilkenny only scored twice from play in this game. Ten different Dublin players scored.
Roll on the Leinster championship which opens with a quarter final against Offaly on 29th May in Parnell Park. Kilmacud Crokes was extremely well represented. Apart from the aforementioned Niall Corcoran and Ryan O’Dwyer, also on the panel were Ronan Walsh, Conor Clinton and Barry O’Rorke. Selector Richie Stakelum played a major role with team doctor Chris Thompson and maor uisce Conor Thompson also manning their stations with aplomb. Our heartiest congratulations to them all and to everyone involved in this wonderful win. For more see HERE.
This wasn’t the only good news. The under 11’s took two squads to the Na Fianna Tournament where they faced up to Na Fianna, Eire Og Nenagh, Dicksboro , James Stephens and Na Piarsaigh (Cork). At the end of a successful day the Stillorgan boys won the A and went down gallantly in the B final.
Back southside Glenalbyn was a hive of activity as the Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Kids Fun Day took fire. Over 200 young hurlers took part in games with visitors from Graigue Ballycallan (Under 8), Bray Emmets (Under 10) and O’Loughlin Gaels (Under 12) complimented by a barbeque, face painting before boarding buses to see the Dubs triumph in Croke Park. Many thanks to all the mentors and parents involved in organising. See photos of U 8s in action courtesy of Mary Gorman!

Minor A’s beat Cuala
More routinely the minor A’s made the short journey to Shanganagh where they bagged two league points with a 2-13 to 3-6 victory over Cuala. For report, photos and video highlights click HERE or on the photo below! The B’s were given a walk over in the game against Liffey Gaels.
Mid Week
Two late goals frayed the nerves in the under 14A’s League 1 match against St Vincents at Silverpark on Wednesday 27th April 2011. Midway the local lads led by 1-7 to 1-3 and looked to have the points in the bag as they added 1-2 without reply as the game drew to a close. Among the stars were Mark McCallion, Killian O’Shea, Eamonn Allen and Mark O’Rourke.
Panel: T Murphy, L Tucker, R Murphy, K O’Shea, P Herlihy, M McCallion, C O’Connor, F O’Reilly, D Dagg, T Duke, E Allen, M Crowley, A Considine, E McMahon, C Gowing, A Tuck and M O’Rourke.
Contemporaneously Silverpark 2 witnessed the under 14B’s account for Dal Cais (an O’Dwyers, Fingallians and Round Towers Lusk combination) in Division 3 by 6-13 to 3-4. The outcome sees the 14B’s joint top of the table with three wins out of three. For report see HERE
While this was going on the minors played the Dublin under 17 squad in Sancta Maria. At the end of an entertaining hour the county squad won 2-15 to 2-14, Crokes having led 2-11 to 0-8 at the break.
Panel: P Tighe, C O’Dwyer, J Murphy, D Corish, S Boyd, C Devins, C Gormley, M Geraghty, A Pilkington, B Horan, C Conway, KJ McGowan, CJ O’Dwyer, J Cassidy, N Gorey, A Colclough, O O’Carroll, M Collins, A Cullinane and CO’Byrne
Twenty four hours later the under 16’s returned from Johnstown Park with a share of the spoils from their Division 1 tie with Na Fianna after a subdued performance. Crokes led most of the way but had to scramble two late points after the home side goaled with six minutes remaining. The final score was 1-13 to 3-7 for Na Fianna (half time 1-7 to 1-5 in the visitors’ favour). Most prominent were Cian MacGabhann, Ronan Horgan, Donnchadha O’Murchu, Donal Keane and Sean Bedford.
