Seniors Account For St Vincents
The Senior hurlers continued their fine run in the league with a good win over St Vincents on Monday night 4th July 2011 up in Silverpark.
A lively first half played with good intensity saw Crokes lead at the break with a Donal McGovern goal being the main difference between the two sides. Crokes moved into the lead with a well taken point by Donal, only for St Vincents to equalise 3 minutes later. Two minutes later Ronan popped over his first point of the evening only for St Vincents to equalise again, two minutes later. Then Donal rattled the back of the net to regain the lead for Crokes and Jude stretched their lead 4 minutes later with a well taken point from the half forward line. St Vincents then pegged back two unanswered points to narrow the margin, only for Donal with two converted frees and Jude with another long range point to stretch the Crokes lead again. St Vincents scored the last point of the half on the stroke of half time to leave Crokes with a 4 point advantage, 1-6 to 0-5.
The second half continued on from where the first half finished, with Ronan and Jude swopping points with St Vincents in the opening 12 minutes. It was Donal again who struck the crucial blow 14 minutes into the half, when he again rifled the ball into the back of the net. The next 6 minutes saw neither set of forwards get much change out of their opposing backs, but it was St Vincents who made the breakthrough with a goal from a converted free that narrowed the margin to 4 points. This however proved to be their last score of the game and Crokes took control of the game with a long range point from Aodhan, goals from both Ronan and Naomhan and a final point from James, leaving Crokes with a final tally of 4-10 to St Vincents 1-7.
Overall the final score flattered Crokes as the game, played in good spirit by both sides, was a tight encounter played at good intensity.
