Junior A's Climb League Table
The Kilmacud Crokes Junior A’s continued their climb up the AHL5 league table with a 3-10 to 2-9 victory over Crumlin in Silverpark on Tuesday 12th July 2011. This was their second win in succession and sees them on seven points with two games to play.
It was a lovely Summer’s evening. The locals opened against the breeze and sun. The first half exchanges were close with never more than two points between the teams. It ended 1-4 to 1-3 in favour of Crumlin. The third quarter followed the same pattern at the end of which the sides were level at 1-7 each.
In the space of three minutes the game turned. First Damien McSweeney lofted a high ball towards the square. Karl Russell won it and drove inside the bottom right post. Next McSweeney got on the end of a through ball and despite the close attentions of one of the visiting backs and goalkeeper was able to kick to the net. From the next attack the Kilmacud men pointed and a seven point gap had opened up.
Following this flurry, no scores were recorded for almost ten minutes. Then Crumlin netted to make it 3-9 to 2-8. Two minutes later Stephen Beale found young Russell and the attacker split the posts - 3-10 to 2-8. In the remaining time the visitors pressed vigorously but were only able to raise one white flag as the home defence, with goalkeeper Paddy Tighe in excellent form, ably abetted by Paul Ryan and Dave Staunton, proved solid.
