U14B’s Overcome opposition & the elements in Wexford Challenge

On Thursday evening 15th July the 14B’s  traveled to play Liam Mellows/Castletwon in Coolgreany Co.Wexford a few miles over the border from Arklow. The traveling party of the bare 15 combining U13s & U14s had an excellent outing despite the constant downpour throughout. Crokes won in the end by a score of 2-6 to 0-2 having led by 0-3 to 0-1 at the break. Despite the final score-line this was a very keenly contested game for long periods with no quarter asked or given. The game was beneficial to the Crokes boys (who combined very well as some of them were playing together for the 1st time) and to the hosts as they are in Championship action in the coming week. Niall Sweeny led the way with another man of the match performance putting in a big shift in the middle of the park ensuring a solid supply platform. Paul Comerford opened the scoring raising a white flag from a free followed by a lovely point on the run from ever improving Andrew Ahern. The hosts replied with a minimum before Paul added an excellent point off his left side to leave it 0-3 to 0-1 at HT. In the 2nd half Alex Considine moved to full forward and made excellent use of an improving supply line, notching up 2-3 including two superb points on the turn. This left the final score Kilmacud Crokes 2-6 Liam Mellows Castletown 0-2. There were strong performances all round for Crokes with special mention to:  Cillian Fleming (for some excellent saves in the 2nd half including one from the top drawer), Matthew Redmond, Steven O’Hurley, Michael Frawley, Niall Sweeny, Alex Considine & Paul Comerford. Thanks to Dermot Connor for organizing the U13’s on the night & our parents who provided transport.
