U14B’s Record Good Win over Near Neighbours Olaf's
U14B’s Record Good Win over Near Neighbours Olaf’s {5-15 to 0-9}
This league game, originally scheduled for Sat 19th (All Ireland Feile Weekend), was played in perfect hurling conditions on Thurs evening 12th June @ Olaf’s home pitch Pairc Ui Bhriain with Olaf’s facilitating us by bringing the game forward.
Following a number of recent feisty outings against Olafs in recent times players needed little motivation for this one and the spine of the team led the way from the off with Syed Risvi dominating full back, Andrew Porter coming to terms with a 1st outing at Centre Back, Richard Couse dominating midfield and ably assisted by Fiachra O’Connor’s debut performance with the 14B’s – decorated by some wonderful high fielding. Niall Sweeny got through a huge amount of work at centre forward in particular in the 1st half. Corner backs Shane Vallom & Cian Montague were strong throughout. Martin O’Connor and Stephen O’Hurley played well on the wings.
The outfield work ensured a platform for a prolific full forward line to record 5-9 of the 5-13 total with all three contributors noteworthy. Paul Comerford led the way scoring 1-8 (0-2 frees) before anybody else on the pitch raised a flag. The pick of a range of excellent scores was a superb overhead catch 30M out on the right, followed by a turn and through strike to notch up a point as good as you will see - Niall Sweeny’s excellent work supplied the ball for Paul. Andrew Aherne following great dedication to his hurling since joining the panel as recent as the 18th April notched up a very deserved 1-1 and showed potential for even bigger days ahead. The Star of the evening (sorry Paul!) with the performance of his career to date was Colin Smyth with 3-0 and more importantly displaying a great competitive spirit throughout.
Kilmacud led 3-11 to 0-2 at the break and the management made some “tactical” adjustments. Olafs came into the game in the second half and notched up some fine points, 0-7 in total. Crokes scored 2-2 with Johnny Maher & Fiachra O’Connor scoring a point each and the two goals by Colin. Kevin Culligan put in a good shift at wing forward. Cilliam Fleming kept a clean sheet and in the 2nd half controlled and cleared a number of long balls very well.
The Final score was 5-13 to 0-9. There will be tougher challenges ahead but this was a very rewarding evening for an under strength Crokes team with those coming contributing admirably.
