U16s Second Leinster League Win

In their final Leinster League match of 2011, the U16s travelled to Enniscorthy on Patrick's Day to take on Rapparees. In the opening minutes the signs seemed ominous, as the home team scored three points with only one over by Donal Keane in response.  Rapparees looked strong and physical, in a match that was at times fractious. Ach ní mar a shíltear a bítear!! Cian MacGabhann pointed from a free and Mark O'Loughlin then scored a great goal direct from another free, putting Crokes in the driving seat. Another point by Donal Keane was followed by a point by Rapparees. Crokes were now winning most of the outfield battles, scoring a further goal and four points (Stephen Faughey, Mark OLoughlin and Mikey O'Dwyer). Rapparees scored a single pointed free, as the first half finished 2-07 to 0-05 in favour of Crokes.

 

The wind favoured the home team for the second half and they opened with three points, with two points in reply (including a free) by Mark O'Loughlin. Despite a further two home points, Crokes hit back, Mark scoring a further goal and three points (two frees). Following a tactical switch, Cathal Keane-Breslin scored a great point from the left wing. The home team fought back with a goal and a point by the centre forward. However, Crokes were now cruising and, despite a single over by Rapparees, further scores followed from Dara O Gallchobhair (0-02), Donal Keane (0-01) and Cian MacGabhann (0-01, free).

 

Eamonn Allen between the posts fed the half forwards (Stephen Faughey, Mikey O Dwyer and Donal Keane) with some excellent puckouts. Full backs, Greg Buckley, Odhrain O Siochru and Cathal Keane-Breslin kept their opponents well shackled, while the half backs, Ronan Horgan, Donncha O Murchu and Ciaran McIntyre remained solid throughout. The midfield duo of Cian MacGabhann and Edward Campion kept their heads against a tough home side pair. The full forward line of Dara O Gallchobhair, Mark O Loughlin and Dylan Paisley, showed good pace and clinical finishing, to put Crokes 3-17 to 1-12 in front at the long whistle. Once again, an excellent team effort.
