Pairc De Burca 2nd & 3rd Class Primary School Hurling Blitz

click here for [photos A very successful Primary Schools Hurling Blitz was held recently in Pairc De Burca with over 160 boys from seven of the local schools taking part in the competition.  The schools were split into two groups and matches were played off on four various days.  I would like to thank all the players who participated in the competition and complement them on the standard of hurling they displayed over the four days.  I would also like to complement them on the way they represented their school, many of whom were wearing the school jersey for the first time!!

The Story in Group One!

Otherwise known as the group of death, four teams consisting of St Laurances Boys, Hollypark Teams 1 & 2, and Scoil San Teresa, battled it out to see who would eventually be bringing the Pairc De Burca Shield back to their school.  After closely contested group matches we ended up with Scoil San Teresa & Hollypark 2 competing in the plate final with St Laurances & Hollypark 1 in the Shield final.  After two closely fought matches it finished with Scoil San Teresa, coached in the Kilkenny style by Mr Power & Mr Cadigan, overcoming Mr Burke’s Hollyark 2 in the plate final.  And in a rip roaring shield final it finished with St Laurances eventually overcoming Ms Melia’s expertly trained Hollypark and retaining the Pairc De Burca Shield for the second year running!!  Needless to say Mr Garry was very satisfied with his team’s performance!

The Story in Group Two!

We had a very interesting line up group two, with two schools making their debut appearance in this competition, namely Our Lady’s Grove and Guardian Angels.  Also competing for top honours in the group were Carysfort of Blackrock coached by none other than Mr Monaghan, and St Marys of Booterstown who were well drilled by Mr O’Shea!  After keenly contested group matches it finished with Guardian Angels overcoming St Marys in the plate final, Mr Howley’s team showing great character to come through in a closely fought final!  In the Shield final, the new boys on the block Our Ladys Grove were victorious over an extremely well coached Carysfort team.  In an interview after the match, Ms Carolan expressed her delight at winning her first major competition in the first year of management!!  Well done to the boys too!!

On behalf of Kilmacud Crokes Hurling, I would like to thank all the teachers on their co-operation and help in organising the competition.  I would also like to express our appreciation to the teachers for all the great work they do in promoting hurling and Kilmacud Crokes within the schools.
